I know what an mp3 is, but what’s all this 192kbps and 320kbps business?
Not all mp3s are created equal. 192kbps and 320kbps refer to how much the mp3 files have been compressed. More compression means smaller file sizes, but a slightly larger loss in audio quality.
192kbps mp3s are more compressed than 320kbps mp3s, but both are considered high quality. Many people can’t hear a difference between 192 and 320. And many audio professionals can’t hear a difference between 320 mp3s and CD-quality (uncompressed) audio.
So… If you’re trying to conserve space on your hard drive, we recommend the 192kbps. And if you’re an aspiring audiophile or don’t mind a slightly larger download, we suggest the 320kbps.
What is FLAC and how do I use it?
Whereas mp3 compression causes a loss in audio quality, FLAC is a compression format that does not degrade the audio at all. It is CD quality.
FLAC files are larger than mp3s, and are not compatible will audio players (such as iTunes). But they can be converted to WAVs and burned to a CD. For more information read this.
